4 best airports for flying to Siesta Key

Siesta Key was at the top of my list for must-see places when I was in the process of moving to the Suncoast.

The powdery soft quartz sand is something I had never experienced before. Even on the hottest of days, the sand reflects the sun so much that it remains cool under your toes. It’s so powdery soft under your feet!

It is made up of 99% quartz and is believed to have come from the Appalachian Mountains. The white sand beautifully contrasts next to the crystal clear turquoise water. It’s a vibe that can’t be beaten.

Each year the area attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to its beautiful pristine beach and quaint village town.

Getting here: the four best airports for flying to Siesta Key

Below are the 4 best airports for getting you to Siesta Key Beach. I’ll explain which is my top pick and why the others are also great options for getting to the country’s #1 beach.

The closest airport to SKB is the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ). SRQ continues to be one of the fastest-growing airports in the country. The airport has recently expanded to include even more round-trip flights. If you search in advance, you can usually find a great deal on round-trip flights. Check out their website for all non-stop destinations.

The next closest airport for getting to Siesta Key is the St. Pete-Clearwater International airport in Clearwater. PIE is just under an hour away from Siesta Key. Allegiant Air flies out of both of these airports and I have personally used this carrier multiple times for fast, cheap, round-trip service.

Tampa is a little farther north than the St. Pete-Clearwater airport and is also a much bigger airport. It’s also a great option and it definitely has the most options in terms of airlines. I have flown Spirit multiple times to and from TPA to get home to Sarasota. If you can lock in a deal with one of the main budget airlines, you can really save a lot of money on travel costs. You can easily rent a car or take an Uber/Lyft to get from Tampa to Sarasota.

PGD airport is also a great option for getting to Siesta Key especially if you find a good deal on airfare. The airport is in Punta Gorda and is halfway between Sarasota and Fort Myers. The airport is within three miles of two major highways that will get you back north to Sarasota in an hour.

In Conclusion

Out of the 4 airports listed above, SRQ is my go-to pick for price and accessibility to the area; however, if you find a really good deal on flights, the other 3 are great options too, but will simply add a little longer travel time for you.

SRQ is a great airport. I haven’t flown to or from the other 3 but let’s just say, either one that takes you to beautiful Sarasota, go with it!
