We met at a mutual friend’s birthday party a month after Emily moved to Florida for a new TV news job, but it took over a year for us to go on our first date.
Being together quickly opened up a whole new world of possibilities. A month into our relationship, we decided travel had to be a part of our future. We talked about exploring the U.S. in an RV, until Cole said, “what about sailing?”
Emily’s first reaction was no way, what? She grew up landlocked in Tennessee and had never been on a sailboat; her water experience consisted of trips to the lake and summer beach vacations. When we started watching sailing channels on YouTube, we started to believe we could actually make this work. Cole had been obsessed with sailing channels since 2013. He started watching them so he could convince a group of friends to charter a sailboat around the BVI’s. When the friends all said no, he became even more determined to figure this whole sailing thing out.
We binged-watched one sailing channel in particular: Sail La Vie. Cole recognized the captain—a co-worker from college—and he got in touch with her. She’d left her job and bought a sailboat, and we found her story hugely inspirational. When we got engaged and celebrated in The Bahamas aboard Sail La Vie, we knew then, more than ever, we were going to sail. Nothing was going to keep us from making this dream a reality.
Now we’re living out this wild and crazy dream of ours and we’re so glad you’re part of the journey!
I discovered my love for boating early in life while growing up on the lakes of Central Florida. In 2013, I stumbled across YouTube’s many sailing channels. I was immediately hooked, and ever since, I’ve dreamed of one day traveling the Caribbean.
After a decade of problem-solving in construction management, I’m confident I can work through any problems we’ll face during our time at sea.
My goal is to show others how they can swim against the current of society, creating a life that’s both purposeful and sustainable.
I’m a former Emmy-nominated TV News personality whose career brought me to FL, where I fell in love twice: first with the water, and then with my husband. Now I’ve left the TV career behind (but I’m bringing the husband) to take my storytelling skills to the sea.
I’m a storyteller at heart and visual storytelling is my passion. After dedicating the last decade to telling impactful news stories about local communities, I’m now thrilled to be documenting our travels and telling the stories of the people we meet along the way. My hope is that, as we write our own story, we inspire you to create a life you love.

S/V Adventure Crews is a 2016 Leopard 44 Sailing Catamaran, by Robertson and Caine built in South Africa. She’s our floating home, our refuge, and our vehicle for adventure!
We toured a lot of boats when looking for our home and we can truly say she’s our dream boat!
Dixie is an Australian Shepherd born in Shelbyville, Indiana. She fell in love with boat life her first time on a boat when Emily moved to Florida.
When asked if she wants to “go on the boat”, she barks with excitement. Dixie’s enthusiasm for playing with her frisbee and her ball is never-ending. She could play ALL day! Dixie’s favorite place to be is at the helm with Mom and Dad.
