Welcome to Freeport, Grand Bahama! Whether you’re arriving by cruise ship, plane, or sailboat like us, there are some must-see attractions you simply can’t miss while on Grand Bahama. Grab your sunscreen, flip-flops, and a sense of adventure, and let’s dive into the top five things to do in Freeport!

Number 5: Terry’s Conch Shack

Number five on our list is experiencing the Bahamian staple – conch salad! It’s a flavorful dish made with uncooked conch meat, key lime juice, bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, and fresh squeezed orange juice. Trust us, if you haven’t had a taste of this dish in the Bahamas, you haven’t truly experienced the island life! We visited Terry’s Conch Shack Taino Beach for the most authentic and delicious conch salad around.

Number 4: Sands Brewery

At number four, we’re raising a glass to Sands Brewery! The only true Bahamian beer, this brewery produces nine different brands of beer, all brewed with local ingredients.

After a tour of the brewery, we got to taste the different flavors, and let’s just say Cole was in beer heaven! The 20-acre brewery is located at the intersection of Queen’s Highway and Grand Bahama Way. Guided tours are available Monday through Friday, 9 am – 2 pm. Tours take about 45 minutes and consists of a guided tour giving an overview of the brewing and bottling processes in addition to the history of the brewery. You can call (242) 688-2337 for booking information. Tickets are $15 each.

Number 3: Lucayan National Park

Coming in at number three is the Lucayan National Park, a 40-acre park that encompasses over six miles of underwater caves, taverns, and tunnels. It’s home to preserved remains of the Lucayan Indians and a prime combination of natural environments.

With pine forests, mangroves, creeks, coral reefs, and the world-famous Gold Rock Beach, this park is a must-visit for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

Number 2: Owl’s Hole

At number two, we’re diving into Owl’s Hole, an inland freshwater blue hole named after the barn owls that nest in the cave.

You can either take the perfectly good ladder down into the blue hole or jump 25 feet down just like Cole did in this video. Although we didn’t see any during our visit, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for those barn owls!

Number 1: Coral Vita

Finally, the number one attraction on our list is the Coral Vita coral farm. Coral Vita is using cutting edge technology to grow corals up to 50 times faster while at the same time boosting their resilience.

Through a process known as coral farming, they take fragments of coral collected from local reefs and raise them in tanks like these until they’re mature. Once mature, they transplant them back into the wild. Coral reefs are some of the most diverse habitats on earth and are home to nearly 25% of all ocean species, so it’s incredible to see the work they’re doing to preserve them.
